The Church at Philadelphia
This Sunday's message is the first of a two-part sermon on "The Church at Philadelphia" (Revelation 3:7-8). Philadelphia was located 25 miles south of Sardis, and like we discussed last Sunday, was devastated by the earthquake of 17 AD. But unlike Sardis, Philadelphia rebuilt and contains a Christian witness even until today. Philadelphia, as most know, means 'brotherly love' and was constructed by Lydian King Atulas Philadelphus as a token of his deep love for his brother Eumenes. This church was the church that Jesus had in mind for all churches. It was the type of church that everyone wants to belong to and every Pastor would love to Pastor.
