The Church at Sardis
This message is "The Church at Sardis" (Revelation 3:1-6) and is the fifth church that we will examine in our series "The Seven Churches of Revelation". The name Sardis really has no definitive meaning that we can put our finger on and say "This is what Sardis means". Some have said that it means 'escaped ones' and is in reference to The Protestant Reformation that came out of Catholicism. Others have said that it means 'fickled'. My personal belief is that it has no real meaning because it is symbolic of what Jesus said of Sardis in verse 1; your name is dead and without life. Sardis was a city with an uncertain future and lackluster past and the church there 'followed suit'; not much to it. The question that I will ask and focus on is this, "Can a church survive that has no heartbeat or life in Jesus Christ?"
