This week we continue our series on "Preparing the Ground." Today's message is called "Thorny Places" (Matthew 13:1-4a, 7, 18, 22) and begins our focus on the person that is born-again. Jesus gave us two examples of the heart that is unsaved and now He begins to balance out the field and will give us two examples of folks that are saved. For the believer, “Thorny Places” should never be what we would consider ‘home’. The soil of ‘thorny places’ is pre-occupied soil, if you will. Something else is already growing there, and if you’re going to ‘share’ that ground of the heart, then you’ll have to compete for the nutrients in the soil with the established thorns. The thornshave an established root system in place. The thorns can grow quickly AND thickly; they block out the sun (Son) and stunt any positive growth for new plant life. The thorns, by their nature, will overtake the ground if you don’t do something proactive to get it under control. Jesus said that thorns, “choke the word (seed)”. Today, there are TOO many Christians within the Church of Jesus Christ trying to grow in ‘pre-occupied’ soil.
